REGENERATIVE JOINT CARE

PRP Therapy for Joint Pain & Injuries

Regenerative Joint Care. Without Surgery. Without Downtime.

Joint pain, whether from injury, overuse, or degeneration, does not always require surgery or long-term reliance on anti-inflammatory medications. At Evolve Medical, PRP therapy for joints harnesses your body’s own regenerative biology to reduce inflammation, support tissue repair, and restore function in damaged joints, tendons, and ligaments.

Administered by our physician team at our Deer Park and Dix Hills locations, joint PRP therapy is a precision regenerative treatment tailored to your injury pattern and goals.

REGENERATIVE JOINT CARE

What Is PRP for Joints?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated biological preparation derived from your own blood. Platelets carry a powerful payload of growth factors and cytokines that regulate inflammation, stimulate cellular repair, and recruit the body’s own healing mechanisms to damaged tissue.

When injected into or around an affected joint, tendon, or ligament, PRP creates a localized pro-healing environment, reducing pain signals and supporting tissue remodeling in ways that conventional anti-inflammatory treatments cannot replicate.

PRP is prepared using FDA-cleared processing devices and is a well-established approach in musculoskeletal medicine. Explore our full Regenerative Medicine program to understand the range of biologics available at Evolve Medical.

Conditions We Commonly Treat

PRP therapy is appropriate for a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy and partial tears
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinitis and quad tendon injuries
  • Labral irritation and hip impingement
  • Chronic ligament sprains and instability
  • Post-surgical recovery support and graft healing

A clinical evaluation is necessary to confirm whether PRP is appropriate for your specific diagnosis and stage of degeneration.

How the Treatment Works

Step 1: Consultation and Imaging Review

Our physician reviews your medical history, clinical presentation, and any relevant imaging to determine the correct injection target and PRP protocol.

Step 2: Blood Draw and PRP Processing

A small blood sample is drawn and processed using a FDA-cleared centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich fraction.

Step 3: Targeted Injection

PRP is injected with precision into or around the affected joint, tendon insertion, or soft tissue structure. Imaging guidance may be used for deeper or more complex targets.

Step 4: Recovery

Most patients experience mild soreness at the injection site for 2 to 5 days. Activity modification is typically recommended for a short period following treatment.

What to Expect: Results and Timeline

  • Initial inflammatory response and mild soreness may increase slightly in the first 1 to 2 weeks
  • Progressive reduction in pain and improved mobility typically begins between weeks 4 and 8
  • Meaningful functional improvement is generally observed by months 3 to 6
  • Most patients require 1 to 3 injections depending on the condition and severity

Results are variable based on the degree of tissue damage, the joint involved, age, and overall health. A follow-up evaluation is scheduled at 6 to 8 weeks to assess response and determine whether additional treatment is indicated.

How PRP Compares to Conventional Joint Treatments

Conventional joint care typically involves anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid injections, or eventual surgery. Each of these approaches carries limitations:

  • NSAIDs and corticosteroids reduce inflammation temporarily but do not address tissue repair and can accelerate cartilage degradation with repeated use
  • Surgery carries procedural risk, extended recovery, and is not always necessary in early-to-moderate degeneration

PRP offers a biologically active, autologous (from your own body) treatment that addresses the underlying tissue environment rather than masking symptoms.

Integrating PRP with Other Regenerative Therapies

For patients with complex joint disease or systemic factors driving inflammation, PRP is most effective as part of a comprehensive regenerative plan. This may include Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) to stimulate tendon repair alongside PRP, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to enhance tissue oxygenation and recovery, and Functional Medicine evaluation to identify and address systemic inflammation, hormonal dysfunction, or metabolic contributors to joint disease.

For more complex cases, we also offer Other Biologic Products including advanced cell-derived therapies for patients who may benefit from a higher-level regenerative approach.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is PRP different from a cortisone injection?

Cortisone suppresses inflammation acutely but does not repair tissue and can accelerate cartilage deterioration over time. PRP delivers growth factors that actively support tissue healing and may offer more durable relief for appropriate candidates.

Most patients receive 1 to 3 injections, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact protocol depends on the joint involved, the severity of degeneration, and your clinical response.

PRP for musculoskeletal conditions is typically not covered by insurance and is considered an out-of-pocket expense. We are happy to discuss pricing and available options during your consultation.

Most patients return to light activity within a few days. High-impact activity and heavy loading are typically restricted for 2 to 4 weeks. Specific guidance will be provided based on your treatment site and protocol.
